People excel formula can be simplified?

I came up with this formula for excel. Can any one simplify this?

=(IF(B7=”-”,0,1)+IF(C7=”-”,0,1)+IF(D7=”-”,0,1)+IF(E7=”-”,0,1)+

IF(F7=”-”,0,1)+IF(G7=”-”,0,1)+IF(H7=”-”,0,1)+IF(I7=”-”,0,1)+

IF(J7=”-”,0,1)+IF(K7=”-”,0,1)+IF(L7=”-”,0,1)+IF(M7=”-”,0,1))*E15

It sure looks like Yahoo! Answers simplified it for you.


You see, you have to add some spaces in the formula, so Yahoo! Answers doesn’t chop things off. After each grouping, just insert a space.

What this formula does is it counts the number of cells that don’t have “-” sign in the range B7:M7 and then multiply the answer by E15.


Instead of this long formula, you can use “COUNTIF” function.


=COUNTIF(B7:M7,”-”)*E15
