You will NEED to go with the P45. The X58 has an LGA1366 socket. The E8500 needs an LGA775 socket. The LGA1366 socket is only used on Core i7 processors.

x58 is for i7 processors so i would use the cheaper p45 unless u want to upgrade to an i7 processor

The X58 is built for the newer Core i7 “CPUs”

Unless you’re going to use Core i7 you have to use P45. X58 is for Core i7(socket 1366) and is incompatible with a Core 2 Duo. You can’t use an X58 board with your current processor.

Between X48 and P45, go for the P45. It overclocks just as well, if not better than an X48, is just as stable, and costs much less.
