First, to prevent any ignorant responses, I would like to clarify that the processor in this particular model is NOT soldered to the logic board; it is in-fact socketed in the “Configure-to-order” models. I would like to know if I could replace my current “Core i7″ I7-2600S (Sandy Bridge) processor with an Ivy Bridge processor. If so, would you please be able to elaborate on which ones would work and why. Also please explain which ones would not be compatible and why. Thank-you for your knowledge and time!

That’t hard to answer. Most pre 1155 z77(made for ivy bridge) motherboards can use ivy bridge processors with a simple firmware update.


Soooo, if apple, or whomever manufactured the logic board issues a firmware update for the one you have, enabling said processor, then yes?
